About Us

Situated right beside the Caledonian Canal in the centre of the village, The Bothy was originally built well over 200 years ago. Used as a workshop and subsequently as a wages office for the men who built the canal over 180 years ago, its natural stone walls, wooden beams and log fire grace a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Established in 1994 The Bothy has an unpretentious Scottish quality and charm and is renowned for a friendly welcome and courteous service. The Bothy also has a reputation for excellent fresh home-cooked food.

We serve food from 12 noon until 10pm from Easter to October (12-3 and 5-9pm in the winter months). As well as the selection overleaf we also serve fantastic seafood - scallops, mussels, prawns, langoustines, clams, monkfish, trout and salmon as well as shark steaks and tuna - all subject to catch and supply of course!

Please see our blackboards for today’s specials. We prefer to use a blackboard to offer you the best selection of starters and many other main courses – this allows us to use fresh in-season produce – the very best.

Although we don’t take advance bookings the bar staff will make sure you get a table to eat at as soon as possible even when we are very busy.

According to our customers, it’s well worth the wait:

“The best meal we’ve had since we came to Scotland”

“Great value for money and very friendly service”

“A lovely warm welcome - we’ll be back”

“The best pint in the Highlands”
